Nxau Must Be Crazy!..
Those who remember the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy" will also remember the person in the lead role of the movie. We would like to give you some information about the African Namibian Nxau (Gi/gao) for your visualization. Nxau, who has an interesting life story, affected us deeply with this life adventure.
Nxau was born in Namibia in 1943. Before his acting career he was a Namibian farmer. He was an intelligent person who could speak Afrikaans, Tswana and Herero fluently. Although he is a San from the Kalahari Desert, he was originally not even sure of his own age, but the recorded year of birth was 1943.
Nxau's luck turned when he was discovered by director Jamie Uys and played the leading role in "The Gods Must Be Crazy". Interestingly enough, Nxau had only seen three white people before he acted in this movie, and he only got $300 for this movie. Broadly speaking, he did not yet have a complete knowledge of the value of the money he earned. Nxau, who was never obsessed with material things anyway, earned his living from farming. Born into a culture in which money is always kept in the background, he used the money he earned to build a brick house with water and electricity for his family.
On the other hand, Nxau had gained enough experience in the second film shot in 1989. He became shrewd a little more, both in terms of acting and financial income. He earned $80,000 from this movie.
Nxau, who entered the film industry in 1980, made six films until 1996 after the films "The Gods Must Be Crazy". After his film career ended, he returned to his hometown of Namibia and continued his old job as a shepherd. Nxau, who had 6 children, lived in the forest until the end of his life.
And when the dates show July 1, 2003, he died of tuberculosis at the age of 58. According to some sources, it is recorded that he died as a result of a lion attack. Nxau was buried on July 12 in a semi-traditional ceremony in his hometown of Tsumke, Namibia, and was interred in the cemetery next to his second wife.
Nxau could have continued his life in the most beautiful places with the money he earned from the movies he played. However, he did not lose his soull and leave his traditions until the end of his life, he farmed in the forests, grew vegetables and hunted animals. He preferred the capricious and tiring modern life to a calm and modest life. That's why we feel the need to congratulate him once again.
We will always remember him with his cute and mischievous smile in his movies. And a chocolate-colored star passed from this world. Starting from the moment this star disappeared from the eyes, his traces still shed light on today.
